An earthquake jolted many parts of Bangladesh including the capital Dhaka yesterday. It was 6:40 in the evening and the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.3. According to the US geological survey the epicenter of the quake was Assam of India, it originated at the depth of 11.5 km below earth. There is no report of casualty or damage so far. This quake was felt from many parts of Dhaka, Rangpur, Sylhet and Chittagong division. Many residents got panicked and came out of their houses.
Another major earthquake of Indonesia was felt from Bangladesh last month. Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued a Tsunami warning, which was withdrawn later.
According to local and international geologists Bangladesh is in an earthquake prone area and a major earthquake is due here. But no one knows when it will occur. Experts have been insisting to follow the national building code. There is perception that most of the buildings are built without taking enough safety precautions.
