Meanwhile, BNP president’s younger brother Shamim Iskandar has filed an application to the Home Ministry demanding the permanent release of Khaleda Zia and taking her abroad for treatment.

An application was made on Monday for permission to take Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment, a senior Home Ministry official told Prothom Alo on Friday on condition of anonymity. The application, submitted by Khaleda Zia’s younger brother Shamim Iskander, has been sent to the Law Ministry for legal opinion.

When asked about the matter, Law Minister Anisul Haq told Prothom Alo on Friday that the application for permission to take Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment has been sent from the Home Ministry to the Law Ministry. This application given by Khaleda Zia’s brother will be examined and a decision will be taken soon.

The family members hope that they will get permission to take Khaleda Zia abroad. That is why he has started inquiring about hospitals abroad. A member of her family, on the condition of anonymity, said on Saturday, Khaleda Zia is suffering from liver cirrhosis. They have learned that Germany, America, Australia and Singapore have advanced medical treatment facilities for it. They are searching for the respective hospitals in those countries so that as soon as they get permission, they can take the ailing Khaleda Zia there.
