National ID card for newly enrolled voters has started from today. Registration of new voters began from 10th March of last year. But they are yet to receive their national ID card.
Seventy lakh six thousand nine hundred and ninety five new voters are enrolled in the voter list update process and these voters will get the national ID card for the first time in their life.
Voters do not need to go to Election Commission office this year, ID cards will be delivered to their door. Distribution work is started from Dhaka, Gazipur and Manikganj district.
National ID card with photo project was taken by the army backed interim government and it eliminated the risk of election rigging. It was decided that Election Commission will not make new voter list after every five years, they will update the list every year instead of that.
