The fate of Palestinian refugees is one of the most complex issues in the moribund Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Palestinians and Arab states say a deal should include the right of return for refugees and their descendants, which Israel rejects.

Shehada Abu Draz, 80, suspects a US-Israeli plot to expel Palestinians from Egypt, even though that country has not indicated it will open its doors to any residents fleeing Gaza.

He said, “We tell America, Israel and those who stand with them that we will never leave the Gaza Strip. We will die here.”

“Israel has occupied our land since 1948 and now, and we will forever be involved in the fight against Israel.”

“Every person living under occupation must resist the occupation no matter what the cost,” he said.
