Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government would introduce 4-G (Fourth Generation) technology into mobile phone service soon to facilitate data penetration and expand ICT-based activities in the country.
“Around 99 per cent area of the country has been brought under mobile network coverage,” she said in a message on the eve of ‘World Telecommunication and Information Society Day- 2014’.
She said her government introduced 3G (Third Generation) technology network service and the teledensity has been increased to 70 per cent.
Bangladesh is going to observe the day along with other countries across the world and the theme of day this year is: “Broadband for Sustainable Development.”
In her message, the Prime Minister said the Awami League government implemented various development projects to ensure use of information and communication technology (ICT).
She said her government formulated the ICT Act and ICT policy to achieve its election pledge of building a technology- based ‘Digital Bangladesh’, adding, “Our government achieved major portion of the goals during the last five years tenure.”
Sheikh Hasina said her government brought all upazilas under optical fibre connectivity, installed union information service centres and district information windows.
She wished the day’s programmes a success.
