Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said yesterday delivered her speech in Rangpur.
According to her, government is going to make the divisional town of Rangpur a city corporation, and form metropolitan police for it.
The Awami League-led ruling grand alliance organised the rally where Jatiya Party Chairman and former president HM Ershad, who flew with the premier from Dhaka, also addressed the rally.
Already the government has fulfilled its election pledge to create Rangpur division, Hasina said. “Now it is our responsibility to modernise this division.”
Addressing a big rally at Rangpur Zilla School ground, the PM said, “We have also kept our commitment about establishing a university here, and set up Begum Rokeya University.”
Ershad demanded unto the PM to supply gas through pipeline for industrialisation of Rangpur division. “Please give us gas, we will give you mills and factories,” he said.
In her answer, Hasina said gas connection will be given to Rangpur after extraction of gas from new fields. “Bangladesh is facing gas crisis right now. If new gas field is found, we’ll give top priority to its supply here.”

Easy loan to the farmers here and introduce national service programme for the youth.

Eradication of the ‘Monga –a curse for the people of greater Rangpur.
Modernization of Rangpur Medical College Hospital so that the people of this division could receive better medical treatment.
Inter-city train for Rangpur from Dhaka and expand the railway communication here. The Railway Workshop and Airport at Syedpur will also be re-commissioned.
The Rangpur Stadium will be developed and there will be an indoor stadium with a designated space for women.
