Removal of BGMEA building demanded

Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) building is built in an area which is supposed to be reserved low land area. This building is built on Bagunbari canal of Hatirjhil area and this is making problem for Hatirjhil project.

The high court has ordered to remove the building from that area. But this verdict is not implemented yet.

RANGS building was demolished as soon as the high court ordered to remove it. A new road was built there.

An organization, Initiative for Peace (IFP) formed a human chain in front of the BGMEA building today. Former director general of river research institute M Enamul Haque said, this building is illegal and a stigma of the country. Neither City Corporation nor RAJUK took step to remove the building. This building is built by cheating. Selling floors of the illegal building is another example of cheating. He also expressed hope that Prime Minister will take step to remove the building before the inauguration of Hatirjhil project.

Other speakers said, this building is not a glory for BGMEA, this illegal building which is blocking natural flow of the canal may create image crisis among the buyers abroad.
