Islami Chhatra Shibir has called a nationwide daylong general strike for Wednesday demanding release of its President Delwar Hussen and other leaders from jail.
The Jamaat-e-Islami student wing’s Secretary General Abdul Jabbar made the announcement in a statement on Monday.
It said the shutdown was called to press for release of central leaders and the whereabouts of ‘missing’ activists.
Jabbar in the statement said their President was being inhumanly tortured like other national level leaders in false cases and accused the government of failing to provide the whereabouts of the missing leaders and activists.
Earlier on Saturday, Shibir had called off its announced countrywide daylong strike for Sunday citing inclement weather and ongoing examinations of students.
In the statement released that day, the Shibir Secretary General had said that they would go for an intensified agitation, including strike, from July 3 if the demands were not met by then.
