Vegetables’ farming becomes most profitable than other crops in recent years bringing fortunes to thousands of farmers and commoners in Rangpur division during the past few years.
“Over 42.40 lakh tonnes of vegetables including potato worth Taka 3,000 crore have been produced from 74,448 hectares land in the division during the last Rabi and current Kharip seasons,” officials in the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) here said.
The farmers generally get Taka 10 per kg on an average for their vegetables and Taka 6 to 7 per kg for potato though the same are being sold at the retailers’ levels at an average per kg rate of Taka 20 to 30, experts, market sources and farmers said.
