The gas crisis continues and the government is not going to lift the embargo on domestic gas connection soon. As an alternative the new domestic users have to rely on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for cooking

Instead of giving new connections the government is promoting LPG use. The government has given incentives so that LPG manufacturers can reduce container price. The government is planning to increase the line rent of existing gas lines and reduce the price of LPG.

New connection has been suspended since July last year in Dhaka for both commercial and domestic use. This is because the authorities are not capable of meeting the demands.

According to Petrobangla, the gas supply shortage is more than 500 million cubic feet per day. The amount may be doubled by the end of this year. They are unable to supply due to pipeline infrastructure, compressor station and new sources of gas production.

It appears from the situation that domestic users will have to be dependant of LPG. The production of LPG has also increased.

Many builders are in problem now as they are unable to sell their flats for the lack of gas supply.
