A recent survey by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics has revealed that more than one third Bangladeshi women are abused by their husbands. Most abuse cases occur in the rural areas. Women aged from twenty to thirty four are most vulnerable.
United Nations has already acknowledged that sexual act with wife against her will is rape. But prevailing laws of Bangladesh don’t recognize it. A recent law on domestic violence enacted in 2010 has included this problem, though it is not specifically mentioned there. But most women don’t know about the law.
Many women are doing sexual act according to their husband’s will which they don’t like fearing further torture by them. Experts say they knew there is a problem but they had no data. This survey will help them to work on it.
Many psychiatrists are saying that ninety percent of married female patients suffering from depressing and having tendency to suicide have history of sexual abuse by their husbands.
